Public Sector Programs

Building New Leadership

Are you a newly promoted manager in a public sector organisation? Would you benefit from guidance on how to develop your public sector management skills and from networking with other newly promoted managers and leaders?

Building New Leadership is designed for new who have been acting in or permanent at this level for less than 2 years. This program will significantly benefit those who represent the next generation of managers in the public sector, including those who have entered through graduate programs or appointed directly into executive level management roles.

Building New Leadership supports officers in the first 12-18 months of their management role. This three-day residential program focuses on the issues that are most relevant to new managers and leaders through facilitated discussions and formal presentations.  You’ll emerge from the course feeling more confident, empowered and supported to operate successfully as a new middle manager in the public sector.

Building New Leadership is uniquely effective for public sector managers because it is:

  • Designed specifically for managers who are new to the executive level in government.
  • Delivered by public sector management and leadership professionals with extensive experience working in government.
  • Residential delivery ensures you quickly feel comfortable and focused in a non-threatening, supportive and respectful environment.
  • Offers you the opportunity to share your experiences with other new managers.
  • Promotes self-awareness of management and leadership qualities by using a 360° feedback profile that is based on the Integrated Leadership System (ILS)

If you’re a new manager who wants to learn how to tackle the challenges of your new role, Building New Leadership can help you.
Stepping into an executive role is exciting and challenging, particularly in the current environment of tight fiscal restraints, pressure to work ‘smarter not harder’ and high levels of public accountability. The opportunity to take a few days out, early in your executive public sector career, to consider the challenges of the job and share experiences with peers from other government agencies is particularly beneficial.

Your employer will also benefit because the program will broaden your understanding of contemporary management and leadership development, which will improve your individual and team performance in the workplace.
