Regional Director Appointed to AIM Board

The AIM Qld & NT Board has announced the appointment of Julie Boyd FAIM as a Director to fill a casual vacancy.

Ms Boyd has been a prominent figure in the Mackay region for more than twenty years. She was elected Mackay’s first female Mayor in 1997 and served in the position until 2008.

Chair of the AIM Board Wayne Patterson FAIM said that the appointment will strengthen AIM’s link to regional Queensland.

“Julie’s appointment as a Director is an exciting development that reinforces our commitment to developing managers throughout the State,” he said.

Ms Boyd was involved in Local Government for 16 years and saw Councils move from a ‘roads, rates and rubbish’ focus to become corporations looking at their communities in a more holistic fashion.

As corporate management practices were introduced and accountability requirements increased dramatically, Ms Boyd recognised the importance of ongoing training for all levels of management and the provision of careers paths for all sectors of Council staff as a part of Council business.

In 2008, Ms Boyd was appointed the Special Trade Representative to Japan, Republic of Korea and the Philippines. She recently changed from Asia to become the Trade Representative for Queensland to Africa.

She has extensive knowledge and experience in planning and governance, currently chairing the Urban Land Development Authority, Queensland Arts Council and Regional Arts Australia along with several Boards and Committee appointments in Mackay.

Mr Patterson said that in addition to Ms Boyd’s appointment, other regional initiatives include video streaming of Brisbane–based seminars and a program of international speakers and roundtable discussions with business leaders.
