Managing Innovation

This unit is highly interactive and challenges students to develop new perspectives and approaches to innovation in the workplace. Key concepts, theories and case studies are examined with emphasis placed on learning from organisations that have led in the management of innovation.

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss and utilise models of the innovation process
  • Gain an appreciation of the sources and nature of innovation in different contexts
  • Understand the key challenges in managing and sustaining, disruptive and radical innovation
  • Understand the role, impact and key challenges of champions and barriers to innovation and the importance of creating a culture of innovation
  • Understand and effectively employ techniques for scanning innovation possibilities and developing creativity capabilities
  • Explore and develop innovation systems that will drive continued growth underpinned by appropriate levels of resourcing
  • Discuss and utilise models of intraprenuership and entrepreneurship
  • Understand the process, complexities and barriers relating to commercialisation of goods and services

Assessment

Assessment includes a combination of class participation, projects and reports. 

Written assessment tasks are based primarily on the student's organisational context and experience. Assessment is at postgraduate level and requires academic referencing and evidence of having read and synthesised the literature.

Relationship to Qualification

Students who successfully complete this program and accompanying assessments will be granted credit towards the Graduate Diploma Management Innovation.
